Booking Through Thursday- Unexpected Windfall
Yesterday, April 15th, was Tax Day here in the U.S., which means lots of lucky people will get refunds of over-paid taxes.
Whether you’re one of them or not, what would you spend an unexpected windfall on? Say … $50? How about $500?
(And, this is a reading meme, so by rights the answer should be book-related, but hey, feel free to go wild and splurge on anything you like.)
What a nice question. If we’re dreaming in the literary sphere… what I want the most is a job in publishing or magazine journalism. Or the blogosphere. Something akin to the kind of editing/writing/publicity work I do for WVFC. Or two more, similar gigs.
Just thought I’d put that out there. Even in this economy.
The obvious answer for $50? Books! Poetry feels indulgent to me. Or mysteries, because they don’t often stand up to a re-read. And, I’d go to a used or small bookstore, to make sure that my money stretched to cover more books, or more obscure books from a small seller.
With something in the hundreds? I’d take a poetry class. $500 would just about cover an in-person class at Gotham Writers or The New School. Not sure what poetry classes are going for at CUNY.

The poetry class is such a wonderful idea!
The idea of spending it at a small seller is great on two levels, one) you’re stretching your moolah, and that’s always a good thing
and two) you’re helping out the small business owner instead of giving a mass retailer a couple more pennies.
A class would be good.
Windfall
Poetry class sounds like such a fun idea
