150 Books Read and a Donation to the NYPL
This year, I set myself and my dad a challenge. My friend Jaye joined in.
For every book I read in 2011, I’m donating $1 to the New York Public Library.
And we did it! I might have read a truly frightening amount this year…. What can I say? Underemployed single girl with a Kindle, a library card, and a history of book reviewing.
2011 Reading Challenge
The year’s not over yet, but I’ve read 150 books. Dad has read 50. And we just made a donation to the NYPL.
With a few days left in 2011, Dad and I made a donation at the library website, of 200 dollars, to be used in whatever way the library needs it most.
I started the year putting dollar bills in a Rolling Stones lunch box. But it got pretty crowded in there. (There was also the time I took $25 out to use as grocery money. Ahem.)
In the end, it was an electronic transfer. A few clicks, and the money we’d set aside went zooming into the NYPL’s coffers. At the speed of cyberspace.
I kind of wish I’d walked between Patience and Fortitude to hand someone a big fat, wad of cash.
Maybe I’ll do it again next year. There will still be book reviewing, Kindle reading, and a massive library habit. But I’ll also be starting grad school. I wonder how many books I’ll read.
