Sully’s Lost Library Book

February 3, 2009

Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the US Airways pilot, who made an emergency landing in the Hudson on January 15th, has some unfinished business relating to the crash.

Although he and his passengers emerged safely, it seems that a book he’d borrowed from the Danville library was still in the cargo hold.

From the AP story:

Library officials say Sullenberger asked for an extension and waiver of overdue fees. The pilot and his spokeswoman didn’t return messages seeking comment Monday.

The librarians say they were struck by Sullenberger’s sense of responsibility and did him one better: they’re waiving all fees and dedicating the replacement book to him.

The book’s subject? Professional ethics.

This puts my various overdue books, and that one that I think I lost at the doctor’s office in perspective, for sure.
