I think I need a bigger blogroll….

March 2, 2009

Talking to Dani Alpert, from the Women’s Magazine class I took through Mediabistro.com.  Turns out she’s got a blog, as does Corina Lopes, another fellow student (and my  sometime guest blogger- look for her to come back again.)  Taking that class was one of the smartest things I’ve ever done.

I’m going back for a refresher tomorrow, on service pieces.  Hopefully, it’ll get me thinking about summer.  Magazines work so far in advance that they’re lining up stories about Labor Day.   That’s hard for me to get my head around, as I’m picking my way across snowy streets.

Since I’m name-checking and recommending blogs.  Two smart, strong, blogger-women I want to be when I grow up….

Susan Mernit shepherded me through my first internship at New Jersey Online.   Her blog is insightful, savvy about the new face of online media, and the push to create strong, honest romantic relationships.  (I blush when she writes about sex though.   My inner teenager remembers that she was my boss.)

Betty Ming Liu ‘s blog always makes me think, and sometimes makes me laugh.  She’s honest about challenging herself, examining her life in the public forum of the blog, being a single mom, money matters.  It’s reassuring to me to read about her figuring things out.  Her candor makes me feel better about not feeling entirely grownup myself.  Plus, the recipes she posts are mouth-watering.

    Hey Elizabeth,
I feel so honored to be mentioned here on your classy blog. I need to set up my blog roll too. I’ve never really put one together because it felt like, ugh, another thing to do. But now that I’m really getting into blogging, I so value the sense of community I get from my fellow bloggers and the great websites out there. It’s exciting when this setup clicks and there’s real conversation! So thanks for inspiring me with post. And you’re definitely on my list too!
    With great affection,
    ~Betty.

Thanks for the shout out. I’m trying this blogger thingy. The whole thing makes my head spin. And not in a good way.
