Book Meme Day 12
Today, the 30 day Book Meme asks: A book or series of books you’ve read more than five times.
Show of hands, friends and blog readers… who here thinks my answer is going to be The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin?
Gotcha!
While I’ve read The Westing Game at least 30 times by now, including once all in one night (fun with insomnia!) I will be using a different book to answer this question!
A few, in fact.
Some of my favorite rereads are science fiction and fantasy. Books and series I return to, both for the stories and for the otherworldly possibilities.
1. Tam Lin– Pamela Dean. A retelling of the Tam Lin legend, set at a fictional liberal arts college. I like to try to reread it in the fall, when I’m feeling vaguely academic and nostalgic for syllabi and tree-filled campuses.
2. Lady Slings The Booze or Callahan’s Secret, by Spider Robinson. A bar on Long Island, or an ethically responsible whorehouse in Brooklyn, full of aliens, time travelers, puns, and fun. I wish both places were real.
3. Ender’s Game and Speaker for the Dead, by Orson Scott Card. My two favorites in the Ender series, though I really liked Ender in Exile‘s perspective on the story, also. So I might read through from Ender to Exile to Speaker, next time I feel like revisiting Card’s world. Sometimes also Xenocide. though I ignore Children of the Mind. Dopey book. (Huh, that should have been my answer for Day 11, about the disappointing book.)
I’ve reread bits of Anne of Green Gables repeatedly. Often, when I’m trying to sleep.
The Great Gatsby, 10 times. Several Lew Archer mysteries, twice. Other than that – there are too many books I haven’t read to start doubling back.
