A Bookish New Year’s Resolution!
So I managed to get through an entire year, tracking the titles of every book I read. And reviewing most of them, whether for the Ledger or my own amusement. Here’s the complete list.
I’m very pleased with myself. The grand total is: 111
Heading into 2011, I had an even better idea… I’m going to use the number of books I read this year to set aside a donation for charity. A dollar for each book.
And I’ve gotten my friend Jocelyn, another voracious reader, to join me. I’m not sure which one of us reads more. She’s an insomniac with a long commute. And I don’t know how, but I read over 100 books last year.
Every time I finish a book, I’m donating a dollar to the NYPL. Novels. Memoirs. YA. Nonfiction. Graphic novels. A buck a book. I’m putting it in a jar.
Logistics: I’ll be updating my book list here, as I did in 2010, with reviews of varying lengths.
Jaye will be updating her list here. I’ll post monthly recaps or so, for both of us.
Fee payable: to collection jar, upon completion and blog logging of book.
At the end of the year, I’ll write a check to the New York Public Library, for whatever the donation amount turns out to be.
Start Date: January 1, 2011
End Date: December 31, 2011
Anyone else want to join? Pick a bookish charity, set up a book jar or envelope, and start tracking books.
For every book I read in 2011, I’m donating $1 to the New York Public Library. Donate now to help them keep me in books!
Very cool. Not sure if I’ll follow suit, but it gives me some ideas for projects of my own…
