World Read Aloud Day

March 9, 2011

Today, March 9th, is World Read Aloud Day, a fundraising and awareness project by the charity, LitWorld.

On their Facebook page, they ask a question I really like.

What would you miss most if you could not read or write?

What wouldn’t I miss? Well, I’d be out of a job, as I wouldn’t be able to write or review books or do editorial work. I wouldn’t be able to cook from recipes or package directions.

I would be out of touch with friends who email me or chat with me online.

And I’d lose one of my favorite ways to relax or to explore new ideas. It’s so wonderful to be able to curl up with a book.

I’m lucky. Reading has always come easily to me, and it’s essential in all sorts of little ways.

So, I’m planning to honor the day by curling up with a good book in my comfy chair. And feeling very fortunate indeed.

I might also play Scrabble.
