Booking Through Thursday: Reading Queue

September 8, 2011

btt button This week’s Booking Through Thursday may have inspired slightly hysterical laughter on my part.

Just slightly.

What are you reading now?

Would you recommend it?

And what’s next?

My TBR pile is… large. It is made of books I got at the Book Expo, lovely review copies. I have 5 or 6 books waiting for me on my Kindle, most notablyA Discovery of Witches: A Novel
There are also books I brought back from Scotland. I went to a book festival, and came home with about 16 books of my very own: mysteries, poetry, and an interesting ethnography of English people.

When I came home, a modest handful of books had come in the mail. So I suppose I will read those first and get them blogged, since nice publishers and publicists sent them.

  1. City of Orphans– Avi. I remember Avi’s books on the shelf of my elementary school library. Glad to know he’s still writing. Know this one’s going to be fun. Historical fiction, set in 1893 New York. I might read this next!
  2. There But For The– Ali Smith. I saw lots of Ali Smith books on sale at the Book Fest in Scotland. So this could be fun! A man locks himself into a bedroom at a dinner party, and refuses to leave. All right. Let’s see what happens!
  3. Fury- Elizabeth Miles. This is set at a high school and there’s some Greek mythology feeding into it… I do love some supernatural-mythic YA, but I don’t like Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars. So… who knows?
  4. Come Again No More– Jack Todd (I am not anticipating loving this one… jacket copy compares it to The Grapes of Wrath, and I don’t really want to read something that sad, if Steinbeck’s not doing the writing.)

For every book I read in 2011, I’m donating $1 to the New York Public Library.

I’ll be interested to hear your take on Discovery of Witches. I read it earlier this year and well, let’s just say I was not a fan.

On a more positive note, today’s topic for BTT is helping my TBR pile to grow! LOL
