Good Morning, and Happy Read-a-Thon

October 22, 2011

Hour 1 Readathon Intro Meme

1)Where are you reading from today?
New Jersey, in a house next to a graveyard. Like right next to

2)Three random facts about me…
I can read gravestones from the breakfast table. Joel H. Byram 1835-1871, I’m not kidding, here at my parents’ place.
This is my first Readathon with a Kindle
Dad and I use the Readathon as father-daughter bonding time. He makes pasta sauce (mmm!) and may read along with me, at least for part of the afternoon.

3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?
That depends… I have 4 on my Kindle that look good. 3 paperbacks I want to get to, and 3 more backup paperbacks, just in case my reading whims veer elsewhere.
4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?
Goals: Read My Life in France and 3 other books. Yesterday, I started The Lost Hero, by Rick Riordan. Because I wanted to be in the middle of a book when the Readathon started. So I could finish something, early in the day. So far, I really like it.
Blog goal: make the rounds and comment whenever I finish a book. And, make contact with a blogger as far away from NJ as possible. So, if you’re on another continent, come say hi! (Locals welcome too, of course)

5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?

Have a bunch of different kinds of things to read, and alternate your caffeine sources. I go for black and green chai.

Coffee: check.
Tea: check
Book stack: check

Pasta sauce: check! Dad’s outdone himself! It simmered all day yesterday.
Other snackies: check! cocoa covered almonds, yogurt, crunchy veggies.

Coffee’s brewed, time to eat cereal and admire the view, before things get going.

Readathon newbie here, dropping in to say hi. I’m in NJ as well, but a stone’s throw (or so) away from New York City.

I think it’s awesome that your dad shares the readathon experience with you!

Enjoy The Lost Hero (it’s one of my favorites!). Happy reading!
