Bookish Resolutions for 2012

December 31, 2011

2011 was an interesting year. After tons of dithering, I became a Kindle owner, and have discovered I can read almost anything on a Kindle. I’m learning what the exceptions are. Straightforward narrative works best, but books I want to meander through and savor? Things like poetry absolutely must be paper!

And in 2012, I’m starting library school at Pratt! I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m excited and curious, and I know I’ll learn all kinds of interesting things. I think I can handle the workload, and work, too!

Something tells me I won’t read 150 books in 2012.

So, that said: Resolutions for 2012

  • Study and stay on top of my library school reading. That’s the main one.
  • Read at least one classic novel. Probably on the Kindle, because they’re free, and the pairing of 19th century lit and 21st century tech makes me giggle..
  • Read more poetry. (Shouldn’t be too hard, am interning at a poetry nonprofit!)
  • Keep a list of books, and get better at writing short, 1-paragraph book review posts.

I think I need to have your list of 2012 resolutions. I would love to be able to read that much! Being in school and working from home as a writer though, I don’t get as much time as I’d like to for reading. I think I need to do something to change that. Maybe a set time each day to read – that could work!
