Merry Jólabókaflóð to All

December 19, 2016

I like the way Iceland does the holiday season. The entire publishing industry is geared around getting new books out in time for Christmas Eve. The bump in publishing is called Jólabókaflóð or “Book Flood.” Friends and family give each other books, and then curl up to read their books cozily through Christmas Eve and the next day.

I found an entire blog where people from Iceland share their bookish holiday memories. it’s lovely.

I think this is brilliant and I fully support campaigns to take this idea worldwide.

My family is on board, of course. Every year there are more than a few rectangular presents underneath our tree.

I’ve got my coziest sweaters ready to go, fuzzy socks, and plans to stay in pajamas for days at a time. I’m looking forward to a few days of curling up by the fire and reading.

Why wait til Christmas Eve?

Merry Book-Flood to all!
